Cultivating excellence in music performance

Our teaching approach:
Who is it for?
We believe that solid foundations are important: our lessons are address the need to cultivate the whole musician.

Our young pianists start as early as 3 years of age, although more usually around 6.

Adult learners are always welcome and can expect to progress faster than children depending on amount of regular practice.

Senior conservatoire entrants, those preparing for final performance recitals, and teachers who are looking for a refresher are always very welcome to get in touch and discuss their particular needs.

Everyone is encouraged to find their personal voice and become independent learners and expressive performers.

Theoretical Training:
Theory, music appreciation, aural training, as well as aspects of chamber music are incorporated in our piano teaching sessions. We believe in a well-rounded approach to instrumental learning regardless of level.

Performance Opportunities:
We aim to develop our piano students to the best of their abilities and always seek performance opportunities for them. Our students perform in venues such as Ripley Arts Centre (Bromley), St Alfege's Church (Greenwich), Steinway Hall.
We offer masterclasses and workshops annually in Orpington as artistic Directors of the PianoPlus International Recital Series, in collaboration with pianists who are usually affiliated with UK conservatoires and universities and prepare selected pupils for competitions and competitive festival classes such as EPTA, Bromley Festival, Stratford & East London Festival, Blackheath Festival, Rising Stars-Grand Prix (Berlin), BBC Young Musician of the Year.

The Ivory Duo Piano Ensemble
About the Ivory Duo Piano Ensemble:
We have always maintained a portfolio career as we love teaching as much as performing. We believe that our direct experiences as recording artists, performers with hundreds of concerts in several countries, orchestral pianists, accompanists and former senior conservatoire, HE staff, and examiners all give us a particular advantage in raising intelligent young musicians and in helping more advanced musicians to develop their skills further in a nurturing environment.
Depending on the case and interests we sometimes decide to team-teach students who we think can benefit, especially in the case of more advanced students, and we certainly pass students on to each other to address specific repertoire tastes as these develop.
